Retired early? See private coverage options until 65

Between your last paycheck and 65, a private plan may help fill the gap. An independent licensed agent can review the options available in your state.

Before you start

Is this a fit for you?

Private plans work well for some people and not for others. Here's the honest version.

Plans are individually underwritten. The agent you're matched with reviews benefits, limits and price with you in writing first.

  • You buy your own coverage, or soon will, with no employer plan
  • You're generally healthy and rarely see a doctor
  • You want a nationwide PPO network so you can keep most doctors
  • Not the best fit if you have a major ongoing health condition that needs guaranteed coverage

FAQ

Straight answers

Can coverage start any month?

Often, yes. Private plans aren't tied to an annual enrollment window, so coverage can often start as soon as the first of next month, sometimes sooner. It depends on the plan, your state and approval.

Can I keep my doctor?

Often, yes. Some plans may use a nationwide PPO network. Your agent checks your doctors before you decide, so if one isn't in network you'll know up front.

Will it actually cost less?

It depends on your age, health and where you live. Individually underwritten plans price on your health, so some generally healthy people may pay less. Some plans are fixed indemnity, which pay set amounts instead of a share of the bill, and your agent explains exactly how a plan works. If a private plan isn't the better choice for you, your agent will say so.

What happens after I answer the questions?

You're connected with an independent licensed agent in your state, who reviews your answers and calls you, usually within minutes during business hours. You'll see benefits, limits and price in writing. There's no obligation to enroll.

What if I have a health condition?

These plans are individually underwritten, so your health affects whether you're approved and what you pay. If you have a major ongoing condition, a different type of plan may be the better fit. Your agent will tell you that plainly.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your information is used only to help you find coverage. It's shared only with the one independent licensed agent you're matched with, and we never sell it.
